My husband and I made the very grown up decision not to go on vacation this year (sigh) and stay home and get some work done on the house. (sigh.) Then, what should come in my email but a link to this article, Getting Away. Here's a quote from the article.
"In a nine-year study, Brooks Gump, an associate professor of psychology at the State University of New York, Oswego, found that men who skipped vacation for five consecutive years were 30 percent more likely to suffer heart attacks than those who took at least one week's annual leave. Even skipping one year's vacation was associated with an elevated risk of heart disease."
On second thought, maybe we should go somewhere?
On third thought, we did take a little trip in February so maybe we'll be okay?
On fourth thought, the study was about men, so maybe I'd be okay anyway ...

SIGH.
We have had to take many trips this year due to extended family needs but have realized these are NOT vacations as much as we love our extended families.
I find this study interesting and it is supported by studies in Europe where a month vacation is not uncommon.
But follow your husband's lead and maybe you can take more mini-vacations?
Yes, we can probably spend a little time at one of the state parks. We just need some time to get away. I agree family trips, even though you love them, aren't really vacations.
