My husband this weekend has been getting out and doing all the maintenence on the vehicles and I am gearing up for next week's (!) combination Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration. I've been trying to think what to call it, Christ-giving or Thanks-Mas. We love a good silly name. We are cautiously optomistic about the future, though it has been Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-47165981623167409252023-09-02T09:23:00.003-04:002023-09-02T09:28:30.942-04:00August 2023 - To Sum Up.We had an awful time in August of this year. My husband got a small rash on his leg that very quickly, within hours, turned into cellulitis, and by the time we got to the ER a few hours after the rash started, to sepsis. Sepsis is treated with antibiotics and fluids. He had an allergic reaction to the first antibiotic (his first ever to a medicine) and went into fluid overload / congestive Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-39968612728395483162023-06-20T13:43:00.001-04:002023-06-21T09:49:57.952-04:00Book nook.
My daughter and I decided to make book nooks. I made this one for the Harry Potter books and she made one for The Screaming Staircase books. I've spent a lot of time in physicial therapy, so much so that I am closer with those people than with my own co-workers whom I never see anymore since I work at home. At first I only had about 30% of arm function and now it's probably 80%. I don't have as much strength in it but my range of motion is moving right along, thank goodness. Spring is here and I'm looking Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-39020684824297330162023-02-07T10:20:00.000-05:002023-02-07T10:20:06.156-05:00My Latest Setback.I twisted my ankle and fell on January 6th, after 5 days of working on my New Years resolutions and doing quite well. When I fell, I fell onto my outstretched right arm, dislocating my elbow. I'm in the process, 1 month out, of doing physical therapy and trying to regain function of my arm. I also broke a tiny chip of bone off in my elbow but that may resolve on it's own. Right now, I have Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-78290053287660070922022-12-24T13:37:00.002-05:002022-12-24T13:39:45.013-05:00White Christmas? Yuck. Okay, we have a lovely white Christmas this year and that means our son is stuck in the city, sleeping in the hospital where he works for the last 3 days and that our packages cannot be delivered so everyone won't get their presents. I know that second one is petty and small, but it is annoying. I'm really worried about my son trying to drive home tonight He wants to but I don't want him to.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-17290842057361532752022-08-15T09:55:00.003-04:002022-08-15T10:04:45.132-04:00Finally feeling somewhat better. I'm feeling somewhat better from my 5 1/2 months of being sick. I'm undertaking the spring cleaning that should have been done earlier this year and last year ... let's not go into that. Anyway, I'm undertaking spring cleaning. I've got my work schedule a little more under control so that it is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday because I've found that if I'm going to getUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-88963797292849512822022-07-18T10:39:00.002-04:002022-07-18T10:39:38.989-04:00Nice weekend. I had a really great weekend. I worked Friday (at home) but got off a bit early. Then we put down the new rug we had gotten for the living room. Then my daughter and I watched the British baking show and ate blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Then Saturday, I got up and accomplished several things, including cleaning and decluttering, and then went to the Van Gogh Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-10940682544231722262022-06-08T10:10:00.001-04:002022-06-08T10:10:14.026-04:00A lot of things. A lot of things are happening around here. The main thing to me is that I got sick in March and have been sick the entire time since then. It's been great fun, but during it I have rediscovered my love of reading. So that's something, I guess. But in other news around here, I'm still working at home and getting a chance to do more medical coding, which I got Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-77324345938118489472022-04-05T10:14:00.003-04:002022-04-05T13:55:44.712-04:00Wonderful week. We just got home from going to visit our son and daughter-in-law in Mississippi. We also took a little side trip to Louisiana / New Orleans. It was a great time with lots of food and fun. We had never been to New Orleans before and it was interesting. Back in MS, we had our first crawfish boil. Very interesting. I liked it okay.&Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-69895249935332557292022-02-16T13:18:00.004-05:002022-02-16T13:20:10.958-05:00Settling into 2022. So far, (knock on wood), it's not as bad as last year. Last year at this time I was dealing with kidney failure and chest pain and all kinds of stuff. This year, though we've had snow and my son has run his car off the road twice trying to get to work, it's been more okay. I'm not working that much so I'm getting a few small cleaning projects done (really few,Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-49833627420366568072022-01-05T08:34:00.000-05:002022-01-05T08:34:07.790-05:00Our week-late Christmas. It went great. We had a wonderful time. I think everyone liked their gifts. One thing I ordered was the wrong size. It was a dressmaker dummy for my daughter. I bought her clothing size, but it needed to be just a bit smaller here and there. Short of asking her for her neck measurements (which would have been a little odd) I couldn't know. Lots of surgeries and recovery time. Loss of 2 people we hold very dearly, my husband's mom and my dear aunt. Covid 19. And, bathroom remodeling. But we're still here. We're happy to be celebrating Christmas this year even though it's going to take us a few weeks to get it done. We are trying to move ahead, We are making plans and looking forward to the holidays. We have moved the location of Thanksgiving so that it will not be at my mother-in-law's house, though my father-in-law still lives there. It seems like it would just be too emotional to have it there. So, we're having it at my brother and sister-in-law's house. We've gotUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-35213691387942581102021-10-18T08:46:00.004-04:002021-10-23T14:00:56.702-04:00Fall break and crisis. We just got home from a lovely little weekend break. We went to Cullman, Alabama to meet our son and daughter-in-law. We saw the local sites and played some board games and video games. It was very nice. However, in the middle of this vacation, we had a call from my father-in-law that my mother-in-law was not doing well and she was hospitalized that night. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-42029196574289015602021-10-05T08:51:00.000-04:002021-10-05T08:51:09.019-04:00We're still here. Things are looking up in some ways. Husband is doing better post-Covid. He's able to do some things now, but still gets tired easily. The bathroom renovation is ongoing. We're on week 4. No more of my friends have gotten Covid, thank God and the numbers seem to be going down here finally. Work is still kind of frantic and annoyingUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-16510571795523558022021-09-17T09:01:00.001-04:002021-09-17T09:01:57.282-04:00Still after all these years, hanging in here. It's still rough. My husband is trying to get over COVID but it's a horror. He still feels very bad and it has been weeks. He's still very weak. Two of my friends are out of the hospital, one is on long-term oxygen and the other I don't know how she's doing. I only keep up with her on Facebook, but I heard she went home. The other friend passed away last Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-51595743765879433442021-09-06T11:04:00.001-04:002021-09-06T11:04:46.695-04:00It's been kind of rough. My husband had a pretty difficult time with Covid. He did not (so far) have to go to the hospital but there was one night he would have asked me to take him but decided he didn't feel strong enough to go. He lost 20 pounds in 14 days, despite my going to the store pretty much every day to find things he would be able to eat. At this time, I've got a couple of friends and Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-11574399782250705612021-08-26T09:28:00.002-04:002021-08-29T12:36:36.355-04:00The Invisible Enemy. It's here. Despite being very cautious, following all the rules to the T and getting vaccinated as early as possible, my husband has COVID 19. It feels very unfair. He feels very, very bad. We're trying to cope as best we can. We are all vaccinated here in this house and my son and I have still been going to work. Apparently, that's the new Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-87927916301452472892021-08-03T10:04:00.004-04:002021-08-03T12:56:50.070-04:00Regrouping and trying again. I'm trying to get past the first part of this year and get back into life. I'm pretty much done with recovery although I'm sure where I had my tooth pulled is going to feel weird for a while longer and my knees will also be artificial. I'm not letting it stop me. I've joined a weight loss / lifestyle change program that is available through my job and I'm trying to Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-72517800148580218152021-07-22T19:08:00.002-04:002021-07-22T19:08:46.376-04:00The fun times continue! So my latest thing is that I got an abscess in my tooth. This is a big deal if you have had your knee replaced because the infection can spread to the knee. So I've been taking my antibiotics and keeping my fingers crossed and then today I had the tooth extracted. The actual extraction was pretty much a non-event. I didn't feel much of anything. But now, 6 Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-48699235767856039942021-07-09T09:40:00.001-04:002021-07-19T09:00:52.390-04:00Now 2 months. I'm 2 months into recovery. I'm so glad it is behind me. It is not the most fun thing in the world as I'm still not feeling 100% great, but it's better. I need to keep that in mind when I get discouraged with it taking so long. I'm still not driving, but I think I will be able to start next week. I'm starting work again next week, work at home. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-32142364669914467882021-06-13T13:46:00.001-04:002021-06-13T13:46:13.027-04:00A Month In. I'm one month into my recovery from my knee surgery. It's the point that you feel like you've been doing this FOREVER and you also feel that it's going to be another FOREVER until you can get back to normal. Things are not normal. My knee is feeling better and bending and moving well, but I have no strength or endurance. I went to a graduation party yesterday.&Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11690730.post-83003221229978281982021-06-01T13:36:00.002-04:002021-06-01T13:36:11.946-04:00Survived it! I survived my knee surgery. I'm very happy about that. It's been almost 3 weeks and I am doing quite well. I am doing so, so, so much better than last time. Last time, I got a knee with a bit more stability than the average knee, with a pin in it, is how the doctor described it. This time, I just got a regular one. I'm having some pain, but not nearly as Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
