Iced Tea.

I love tea. My whole family loves it. The trouble is, we like it sweet. We put 1 1/2 cups of sugar in a gallon of tea. So according to my calcuations (you might want to check this!) 774 calories in a cup of sugar plus 382 for the half cup = 1156 calories for the whole gallon. So 1156 calories divided by 124 ounces = 9.32 calories per ounce or about 75 calories per 8 ounce glass of tea. I figure I'm probably getting 200 calories a day from tea alone, so I'm going to try and cut that out and see if I can lose this weight that has been creeping on since May.

Blah.

I'm not good with things that require self-discipline, but here goes.

We make tea, but only put 1 cup of raw sugar or turbinado(sp?) in ours. We gave up white refined sugar. It's a step in the right direction. But we weaned down to 1 cup. Small steps.

I can only drink tea in the morning or by lunch time. For my doctor does not want me with too much caffeine late in the day. They say it effects my sleeping(Which due to surgery, stinks right now). So no tea after lunch.

My son no longer drinks our tea for I quit buying instant additives...sorry I wanted to get healthy. And my husband is on his high protein diet, so no sugar. So we rarely if ever have tea. Water and OJ it is for us. At least we are saving money.

You might try just using less sugar in it. We used to love sweet tea as much as anybody else, but somehow we've made it to drinking pretty much only UNsweetened. It sounds nasty, but some how we actually like it now and prefer it over sweetened! Good luck : )

We did get used to skim milk, so I guess we could try it, although I've tried it in the past and it hasn't went over well. I could have my own pitcher and gradually lower the sugar in it, or use splenda.

You may like Lipton Lemon Soothers tea bags. I only drink unsweetened tea(yes I know strange for a southerner) and the adding one or two of the Lemon Soothers to the regular mix makes it lemony without adding sugar.

Lemon maybe? Or how about making it with an herbal tea bag or green tea instead of black tea bags?

I love plain tea, no nothing in it. I don't bother trying to order it when we travel in the south anymore. I kept getting served Sweet Tea. Blech. 8-D
