Maybe 75%.

That's how much of the kitchen floor tile we have done.  We work on it a little bit each day.  Today though, I want to get finished with it.  I'm not sure if we will because we have a bunch of errands in town that we need to take care of, a list of things I need to pick up (including Max's insulin) that seems to get longer and longer and at least that one that can't wait until tomorrow.  He's almost out.

Giving Max his twice daily shots has pretty much become routine.  My husband and I share the responsibility though neither of us like it much.  When we first had to start doing this, we had a discussion about who should do it.  My husband was the only one with any experience giving shots since he had to give me steroid shots during my last pregnancy because we thought the youngest was going to be premature.  I could do shots, though they made me feel a bit squeamish at first.  Oldest son has always been freaked out by needles, but since he's had to have surgery 3 times and had to have IVs, he's come a long way, but not far enough to give a shot to the dog without passing out.  Daughter is worse than he is, with the same needle freak-out.  She's almost passed out at the doctor's office after getting a shot and at the hospital when visiting a friend when talk turned to the subject of needles.  Youngest son said that he'd be the backup if something dire happened to both me and Dad, because he thinks that maybe he can do it.  He's never passed out or felt like passing out.  So we do it.  Max is doing okay with it, though he's had reactions a couple of times and had to get a does of Karo syrup to get his blood sugar levels back up.  It's kind of scary.

So anyway, back to the order of the day ... work, errands, floor tiles and hopefully, at long last, getting in the pool.  

The first get er done day of the summer*

The kids have been out of school for over a week now and we should have already started the spring cleaning, summer work and also the summer fun list.  However, we had 3 or 4 days of no air conditioning and I know we are wimps but we didn't feel like doing a whole lot and getting overly warm, although we did do some of it.  The second reason we haven't really started yet is that I have had yet another urinary tract infection and those things are simply no fun.  I have been to the doctor now and gotten and antibiotic and hopefully am on the mend.  I have been checking things off today quite well.  I've gotten my oldest son's laundry done.  He usually does his own laundry, but he is going to have to work a 12 hour shift tonight so he had to go right to bed when he got home.  I've also gotten Max a vet appointment for this afternoon to check on his blood sugar levels, taken the garbage out, loaded the dishwasher, began hoeing the garden (late, I know, see above) and done some general cleaning tasks.  In a few minutes, I'm going to tackle decluttering in my bedroom.  We have way too many books in there and some of them need to go.  Later, after we get back from the vet, if my fever has subsided, I'll probably get in the pool.  I really love summertime.

*Get er done is local speak for get it done day.  :-P   We do live in Kentucky you know? .

Not much today.

We did not do a whole lot today.  I worked, but while I was working, I developed one of those excruciating pounding headaches that make it hard to concentrate.  I finally got done, but it was kind of rough.  After I worked, I put a warm washcloth on my eyes and laid down for a while.  That made the headache abate somewhat but it didn't go away completely.  After my nap, my daughter and I went to the library briefly and then to my moms house, where I beat her at 2 games of UpWords.   The headache finally stopped in the middle of the first game, thank goodness. 

Youngest son begged to play on his computer this morning, when it wasn't screen time and I said no and so he played Legos while listening to Ranger's Apprentice for most of the day.  I am still glad we set the screen time limits and have stuck to them.  Otherwise, all he would do would be play video games, all day, every day.

The girl has been reading all day.  The big boy has been sleeping all day because he works the night shift.  It's almost 8:00 p.m. and he just got up.  He's got the cold that has been running through the house.  It's funny, when I was actually typing the word cold, I sneezed.  I hope that doesn't mean I'm getting it. 

I can't share pics of the terrariums because my daughter won't upload them from her camera to the computer so I can access them.  Someday she will, I'm sure and then I will share. 

A pretty day.

It's such a pretty day today.  After I got finished with work, my daughter and I went outside and threw a ball for a while, looked at the garden and tried to get the cats to let us pet them.  They're weird.  Sometimes they love us and sometimes we're terrifying and we can't figure out why.  Today, we were pretty darn scary, so we barely got to pet them at all.

We're counting down the days until school is done and I'm starting to plan the summer.  We should do a summer adventures list this year.   I want to lose some weight, get in shape, get the house in order and have some fun, in other words, just like every other summer.  :-P  The thing that will be different about this summer is that my oldest has got a job and he starts on April 30.  That's going to be weird.  Hopefully a good weird.  I am a little afraid he'll just stay in the job and will decide not to go to college this fall, but he promises me he won't.  Still, a mom worries.  I don't want him to get side-tracked.

Right now.

The University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are playing the championship game. Both of them are close to here, but we're not really fans of either. My daughter says she likes UK better than U of L because she likes blue better than red, but really, we don't watch the games so that's the only opinion about it any of us has. Not so my town, though. We just got back from the grocery store and the town was nearly deserted. There was maybe 10% of the usual traffic and very few people in the grocery store. :-)

I guess it was

a busy-enough weekend that it left me no time to blog!  Truth is, I opened blogger a couple of times over the weekend, but just didn't have much to blog about.  Compared to last weekend, it was very relaxed.  Saturday, the girl and I went to a women's luncheon and then she went with her Mamaw and her cousin to Michael's crafts to spend some of her Christmas gift card money.  (While I got to come home and do medical transcription!)  She came home with pom-pom yard and knitting needles.  it seems that Mamaw had taught her to knit.  Yesterday was a pretty good Sunday because we had choir practice and that terrible, awful, scary duet that I had been worrying about so much got changed into a sextet and now I don't have to sing my part alone.  It's a very difficult song and I'm not really a soprano so it's really, really, really, really high for me.  As you can imagine by the number of reallys in that last sentence, it did not sound good.  :-P    

It is 9:30 on Monday morning and I have not decided whether we are going to do school this week or if we are going to do spring cleaning.  I'm leaning towards the cleaning.  I'd better decide soon because the teens will be up soon and anxious to get some work done.  (Ha ha, did you see that funny I made there!?)  (Yeah, right.)  We have 154 days of school in this year and so we are in a really good position to take some time off and put the house in order so that spring cleaning bug will leave me alone.  I do intend for the kids to do the majority of it this year because they are capable and they do not have jobs that the would have to take unpaid leave from, like me.  The oldest one had a job interview week before last, but I guess maybe it didn't pan out because they didn't call him.  :-(

Oh well.  Back to work for me now.

Good morning ya'll.

It's hot.

It's not spring yet, but it's already hot.  It's 79 outside and 80 inside.  The flowers are blooming and it feels like spring.  We were just sitting around discussing how we wish we'd have at least a little cold weather to cut down on this summer's mosquitos, gnats and ticks.  I'm not sure if that would really help. but that's the old wives tale and we'll take any advantage we can get over the bugs.  Youngest son has already begun his campaign to get us to put the pool up, but I'm pretty sure we won't convince my husband to do that but it sounds nice about now.

Well.

We were stuck at home last week because we didn't have a vehicle and this week because the girl is sick and does not enjoy being home alone.  It's fine with me.  Sometimes I feel that we run up and down the road too much, so I kind of enjoy when I can't and I really don't have to make a decision about it. Sometimes making the decision about what to do is the toughest part of the day. 

Busy and Fun.

Today we went to the science museum where we have a membership.  I bought the membership in order to get into museums in other states on our vacation for free, so we got our money's worth out of it the first month.  Today we saw an IMAX film on Lewis and Clark (discounted because we're members) and then toured the museum.  They had replaced some of the exhibits with new ones so there were new things to see.  We had a picnic right there in the museum, since it's been pouring rain all day and then we went to the salvage grocery store for kicks on the way home.   The Lewis and Clark IMAX movie was probably the most educational part of the day.  I know I learned a lot.  :-)  For example, my youngest son said that he didn't know that Lewis's first name was Meriweather and my daughter didn't know that they carried their boats up over the mountains.  There was one scene where you see a snowy area in the woods and all of the sudden people come up out of it, they've been sleeping under the snow!  I can't imagine that!  I don't think I would've survived the trip.  I'm too 21st century soft.
