That's the way some days go. I tell you. I was not prepared for the roller coaster ride that is middle age. Today my mom is not feeling well and I took her to the doctor. Then afterwards, I had to field calls from family members asking what the doctor had said. She's basically okay, I guess. She may have something wrong with her gallbladder so we'll go and have a scan for that on Wednesday. I was also getting calls from the college my son may be going to next month, which is very exciting, but also a bit scary and bittersweet, because I mean, how did he grow up this fast?! Also, I got a call saying the custom log bed that a friend's husband is building is done and I got to see the wonderful progress my husband and 2 youngest kids have been making on remodeling the house. They've got a ton done. And lastly, I've gotten a couple of update calls from my oldest son who is at camp this week. He's enjoying himself very much and is very bubbly and talkative.
Today I was up. Then down. Then up. Then down. Then up. Then down. Then up.
I had so many interruptions that it took me 14 hours to get my 6 hours of transcription done.
Some time in the middle, I had to take a nap.
It happens.
I just don't know if I have the strength for another day like today.
I hope tomorrow is kind of normal, but it's really not looking too good. I've already got a ton of stuff to do.

One thing and another.
We've had an interesting week I guess. The two younger kids and I have been getting some things done and having a regular week.
The oldest son has been working, working, working. He did 2 twelve hour shifts in a row, yesterday and the day before, came in this morning and collapsed. He's been asleep for 12 hours now and if he doesn't get up soon, we'll have to wake him up in a little while to work tonight, though I hate to.
Yesterday when I was getting ready to cook a meatloaf, the oven heating element started sparking like sparklers on the fourth of July so we're going to need either a new element or a new stove.
Then today, the brakes on my husband's car caught fire.
It's really not Friday the 13th is it?

Boys. Brothers.
My youngest son asked that he be awakened early this morning. He usually gets up on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons but lately our TV connection hasn't been all that good. He said that he wanted to get up anyway so he could see his older brother. With the oldest working 50+ hours this week, time with him has been rare. For the last hour or so, my boys have been having a conversation which has ranged from the kitchen to the living room, to their shared bedroom, both of them talking, talking, talking, sometimes at the exact same time and this conversation is punctuated with all kinds of boy noises, sound effects and loud booms, fake fighting and laughing. The big boy has been picking up the smaller one to see if he's heavier than the books he had to lift at work last night, which is funny. I love it. I find it funny that I wanted a girl when I found out the youngest boy was on the way. I already had tiny girl clothes. I had a 22 month old girl who wouldn't mind sharing a room and a 5 year old boy who would mind sharing, but I got a boy and I am really glad that I did. It's been good for everybody.

Still lazy.
To clarify about our lazy week, I have been working but the first 2 days of the week, there wasn't a lot of work. I figure the doctors were taking days off too if they could and not scheduling any procedures if they couldn't help it. Today was a bit more normal and I got a few more lines, but still not up to the usual amount. I did have to leave the house yesterday because we ran out of 2 of the necessities of life - cat food and toilet paper. We went to Game Stop because my youngest son wanted to get a new Skylander's figure to go with the Skylander's game he got for Christmas, but they were sold out. We were looking at the markings on the door that show heights (I guess so they can tell the police how tall the robber was?) and my youngest remarked that he's short and that even his friend who is 2 years younger is taller. I told him that there are advantages to being short at his age, because sometimes tall kids are expected to act older than they are. He has another friend a few months older who is 6 feet tall and people think he's 17 or 18 when he just turned 14. My son could see how he wouldn't like that right now, but he'd still like to be taller when he's older. He's only about 5 feet tall now, but his growth spurt hasn't hit yet. He'll get there.
