RAOK stands for Random Acts of Kindness.  I was going to do a bunch of them for my birthday week, but really, it's been such a crazy busy week that it's been a little difficult.  I did let some people out in traffic, which I pretty much always do, so that probably doesn't count.  I put a quarter in a bubble gum machine for a child to find.  I mailed my happy mail package.  I didn't give any mean looks to the hundreds of middle school kids in the museum the other day who were running and screaming all around us (getting a great deal of information out of the exhibits, I'm sure).  I gave a small online donation to a child on Reece's Rainbow.  

So I didn't do a whole lot, but hopefully some good will come of it.  Like I said, it's been a crazy busy week.

Noah's Hands of Hope.

They are having an auction this week to raise money for families of kids battling catastrophic illnesses.  They bring toys and games and other supplies to the hospital, help families pay for gas and lodging and just generally support them as they go through this.  See if there's something you can use at the auction.  I saw 25 dollar gift cards with a current price of 17 dollars, so you might get a deal.

Random Acts.

We kind of heard back from one of our random acts of kindness.  A friend of mine told me this morning, that he had run into a guy who had benefited from one of the envelopes of quarters that we put on one the vending machines at the hospital.  The guy said that his wife had had to take one of their 4 kids to the ER and ended up staying many hours.  They were hungry, so she went to the vending area, only to realize that she didn't have enough money to buy anything, then she noticed our envelope and the note!  So with our 2 dollars in quarters she was able to buy a snack for herself and her child.  I was so happy to get to hear back from one of them.  We're planning to do this again.

That's what my daughter said about our random acts of kindness event.  We spent 2 hours and about 5 dollars each and did 16 or 17 acts of kindness in our community.  We put money on the vending machines at the hospital, gave out crayons and coloring pages to kids in the emergency department waiting room, gave cupcakes to the firefighters and the emergency department staff, paid for someone's lunch, bought someone a bottled water, put money on gumball machines at the grocery store  (with a little note) and bought flowers and took them to a lady who just got out of the hospital.  We also gave out and received some impromptu hugs.  We will be doing this again.

A busy day planned.

We're doing Random Acts of Kindness today with a group from church.  Hopefully there will be a group there and not just me and my kids.  We need some people who are not as shy as we are.  We have all kinds of tiny acts of kindness planned, taking things to hospice and emergency department workers, putting change on vending machines, taking flowers to people, paying for people behind us in the drive through and a few other things.  I hope it goes well.  It should be kind of fun.

Helping in a tiny little good deed.

A year or so ago I got an email in one of my homeschool email groups that someone was looking for a small dog.  I got in touch with the lady I know who rescues dogs, the one from whom we got Freckles a few years back and asked her if she had any dogs available.  She had one, a little Jack Russell named Fritz.  I forwarded her email back to the family who was looking for a dog and I never heard another thing about it, until today.  The lady who was looking for a dog a year ago, was cleaning out her old emails, found mine and sent me a note today thanking me, because Fritz has been part of their family for a year now and they really enjoy him.  Isn't that kind of cool and wasn't it nice of her to let me know that it all worked out?
